Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, the learner will be able to:
- Interact effectively with patients, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure high quality patient care
- Engage in practices that promote lifelong learning, relevancy, and support a culture of evidence based practice in practice while demonstrating surgical conscience in all aspects of practice
- Use information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making
- Minimize risk of harm to patients in the perioperative routines, transportation, positioning, medication and anesthesthetic agents, emergency procedures and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance
- Function effectively within interprofessional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care
- Use data to monitor the outcome of patient care in the surgical environment to continuously improve the quality and safety of the surgical environment
- Provide compassionate and coordinated care based on the patient’s needs
- Foster an environment of ethical, legal, moral, and medical values related to the patient and the operating room team during the perioperative experience
- Champion best practice in the surgical environment through coordination of necessary supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for specific procedures
- Synthesize concepts of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and microbiology in your role as a surgical technologist
