VET 111 - Veterinary Nursing Procedures II 3 Credits, 4 Contact Hours 2 lecture periods 2 lab periods
Continuation of VET 110 with an emphasis on venipuncture, catherization, fluid therapy and basic dental care procedures. Includes complete physical examinations, wound management, CPR and first aid.
Prerequisite(s): Within the last two years: C or better in VET 100 , VET 110 , VET 130 , and VET 225 . Corequisite(s): VET 120 , VET 131 , VET 150

Course Learning Outcomes
- Proficiency in performing venipuncture for treatment delivery or blood sampling.
- Proficiency in performing the placement of peripheral intravenous venous catheters.
- Demonstrate the set-up, types of delivery and maintenance of fluid therapy.
- Proficiency in application and removal of bandages and splints.
- Complete aspects of small animal dental prophylaxis.
- Compare and be signed off on performing the different forms of urine sample collection in small animal species.
- Execute the protocols to intervene in emergency interventions.
- Discuss the aspects of care for hospitalized and recumbent patients.
- Appraise the status of wounds and apply or instruct in interventions to enhance wound or abscess healing.
