Health Information Technology and Management Careers

Health Information Technology and Management (HIT/HIM) jobs are increasing in Pima County and are careers you can count on being needed in our community! HIT/HIM professionals work in medical billing, health insurance, medical coding, front office support, electronic medical records, and medical transcription among many more areas within healthcare.

Coders determine the correct numerical code for medical procedures and diseases - insurance and government organizations depend on the codes for reimbursements and statistical information. HIT and HIM specialists oversee the accurate maintenance of the complete medical records of each patient, use computer programs to input and analyze data, schedule patients, work insurance claims and reimbursements, and help with cost control.

“This will be my second career after a long career in nursing. I’m adding new skills to do something different and potentially work from home.”
   — Annette Perkins, Pima HIT student

“The instructor was very knowledgeable and helpful. She held study groups for the national certification exams - no other place in Tucson does that.”
—Cathy Estrada, Pima HIT Graduate and Coding Supervisor- Tucson Orthopaedic Institute.
