RTH 156 - Cardiopulmonary Diseases I 3 Credits, 3 Contact Hours 3 lecture periods 0 lab periods Study of commonly encountered cardiopulmonary diseases in the adult patient. Includes infectious pulmonary diseases, obstructive pulmonary disease, traumatic injuries of the lungs and chest, pulmonary vascular diseases, disorders of the pleura and chest wall, and other pulmonary topics.
Corequisite(s): RTH 110 , RTH 112 , RTH 121 , RTH 121LB Information: Students must be currently admitted to the PCC Respiratory Care program and obtain consent of the Respiratory Care department before enrolling in this course.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Describe anatomic alterations of various lung pathologies.
- Describe various causes, predisposing conditions and common co-morbidities of lung pathologies.
- Identify clinical manifestations that develop as a result of pathophysiologic mechanisms.
- Gather clinical data, formulate a respiratory assessment and develop an effective treatment plan.
- Use the Internet to research, critically evaluate, and present a cardiopulmonary related topic.
