BCT 147 - Woodworking II 3 Credits, 5 Contact Hours 2 lecture periods 3 lab periods A continuation of BCT 146 . Advanced topics in woodworking. Includes safety practices; designing and planning; measuring and cutting; planing, chiseling, and sanding; butt, biscuit and dowel joints; rabbet joints; dado joints; lap joints; miter joints; mortise-and-tenon joint; veneers; using fasteners, dovetail joints and case casework; and applying stains and clear finishes.
Prerequisite(s): BCT 146 or concurrent enrollment. Information: Prerequisite(s) may be waived with consent of instructor.
Course Learning Outcomes 1. Describe proper safety practices for the woodshop.
2. Discuss design and planning procedures for building furniture.
3. Use measuring and cutting techniques.
4. Demonstrate planing, chiseling, and sanding.
5. Demonstrate butt, biscuit, and dowel joints.
6. Construct rabbet joints, dado, mortise and tenon, and dovetail joints.
7. Demonstrate how to use veneers.
8. Demonstrate how to use the right fastener for the job at hand.
