Automotive Service Technician

A combined lecture and lab experience prepares students for entry-level employment as an automotive technician performing basic automotive service and repair. Students are trained in shop safety, service fundamentals, repair order writing, repair-time calculations, service information retrieval, and professionalism. Students will perform hands-on tasks that include, but are not limited to, learning how to perform vehicle inspections, replace all the fluids in the vehicle, repair suspension system components, such as axles and struts, change water pumps, operate coolant and transmission flush machines, repair tires, and perform basic brake system repairs.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, the learner will be able to:

1. Successfully identify basic service needs, complete repair orders, and perform basic vehicle services
2. Demonstrate tire wear diagnosis, and perform a tire dismount, repair, remount, and balance
3. Perform a CV Axle or Rear Axle Ramp R&R
4. Perform a cooling system or ATF system flush
5. Demonstrate knowledge of the Mitchel ProDemand service information software and obtain a level 1 NC3 certification
