Essential skills needed to become a community health worker. Integration of the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the individual, family, and community, while providing the science, philosophical foundation, and basic noninvasive technical skill. Includes both individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through outreach, individual and group education, coaching, social support, advocacy and networking.

Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the role and scope of practice of a Community Health Worker (CHW) and how they function as part of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal, and cultural competency skills to engage with diverse communities.
- Assess social determinant of health and their impact on individual and community health outcomes.
- Develop community-based health education and outreach programs targeting priority health issues.
- Describe how community organizations and healthcare providers connect individuals to appropriate health and social services.
- Apply ethical principles and standards of practice in the CHW profession.
- Utilize appropriate documentation, data collection, and evaluation methods to measure the impact of CHW interventions.
