UAIT 143 - Optical Integration and Alignment

50 Noncredit Contact Hours

Learn how to integrate, build, and align optical systems such as lens tubes, free-space alignments, and bench-top set-ups. Learn to use specialized equipment, such as autocollimators and centering equipment, as well as specialized techniques for working in the infrared.

Prerequisite(s)UAIT 140 Optics Science Fundamentals and UAIT 141 Optics Handling & Assembly

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Learn how to properly mount optics
  2. Demonstrate iterative alignments, and how to improve image quality and walk laser beams through optical systems
  3. Learn how to use autocollimators and alignment telescopes
  4. Familiarize yourself with centering equipment
  5. Align polarization elements such as polarizers and waveplates
  6. Learn safety and tips for aligning IR systems
  7. Learn to identify common alignment and mounting issues
