UAIT 143 - Optical Integration and Alignment 50 Noncredit Contact Hours 20 Lecture Hours 30 Lab Hours
Learn how to integrate, build, and align optical systems such as lens tubes, free-space alignments, and bench-top set-ups. Learn to use specialized equipment, such as autocollimators and centering equipment, as well as specialized techniques for working in the infrared.
Prerequisite(s): UAIT 140 Optics Science Fundamentals and UAIT 141 Optics Handling & Assembly
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Learn how to properly mount optics
- Demonstrate iterative alignments, and how to improve image quality and walk laser beams through optical systems
- Learn how to use autocollimators and alignment telescopes
- Familiarize yourself with centering equipment
- Align polarization elements such as polarizers and waveplates
- Learn safety and tips for aligning IR systems
- Learn to identify common alignment and mounting issues
