AIT 123 - Applied Soldering

5 Contact Hours, 3 Credits
2 lecture periods 3 lab periods


Introduction to the practical skills required for industry soldering of various electrical components. Includes evaluation and inspection of assemblies for acceptance/rejection decisions. Also includes topics covered and skills based on The Institute for Interconnecting and Packaging Electronic Circuits (IPC) in their “Requirements for Soldering Electrical and Electronic Assemblies” IPC J-STD-001

  1. Explain IPC J-STD-001 Professional Policies, Procedures and General Requirements.
  2. Demonstrate assembly of soldered wires and terminals.
  3. Demonstrate assembly of soldered plated through hole (PTH) components.
  4. Demonstrate assembly of soldered surface mount technology (SMT) components.
  5. Evaluate and inspect assemblies for acceptance/reject decisions.
