ESL 070CM - Intensive Academic Oral Communication II

4 Contact Hours, 4 Credits
4 lecture periods 0 lab periods


Prepares non-native English speakers for certificate and degree programs by developing the academic and English language skills needed to succeed in higher education. Includes development of listening comprehension, note-taking strategies, and effective discussion and oral presentation skills at the intermediate level.

Prerequisite(s): Required score on ESL assessment test OR completion of ESL 060CM  
Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in an ESL Reading and Vocabulary course (RV) and an ESL Writing and Grammar course (WG) according to previous course completion or ESL assessment test score. If any recommended course is taken, see a financial aid or Veteran’s Affairs advisor to determine funding eligibility as appropriate.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Use low intermediate-level listening/speaking skills to discuss written and spoken materials and to participate appropriately in the classroom with increased proficiency.
  2. Use new vocabulary appropriately, including language functions and idiomatic expressions, in oral communication.
