UWLD 262 - Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding This basic welding course will expose students to the wire feed welding processes, materials, tools and shop safety used in the welding industry. The course will cover procedures and techniques in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW). Specific topics include health, safety, welding terminology, arc welding equipment, proper welding procedures for arc welding, welding machines and polarities, filler metal identification, welding positions and material selection.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the health and safety used in arc welding processes.
- Describe the basic welding terminology used in the GMAW and FCAW arc welding processes.
- Identify and describe the proper handling and assembly of GMAW and FCAW welding equipment.
- Demonstrate GMAW and FCAW arc welding techniques for mild steel.
- Demonstrate welding of fillet and groove welds in flat and horizontal positions.
