AJS 123 - Corrections as a Process 3 Credits, 3 Contact Hours 3 lecture periods 0 lab periods Overview of corrections as a process and its appropriate place in the criminal justice system. Includes the study of inmate characteristics, prison culture, correctional history and philosophies. Also includes community corrections, supervision and career opportunities in corrections.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Describe the components of the adult correctional system.
- Explain how jails, prisons, probation and parole systems function
- Write reports, case briefs, policy papers and/or problem-solving papers; demonstrating mastery of English grammar, spelling, syntax and composition. Competency 1.1
- Effectively use interpersonal skills in interviews. (rapport, guided conversation and elicitation techniques) . Competency 1.2
- Interpret policy and procedures, admission of evidence and the causation of crime. Competency 4.1.
- Articulate the effect that crime has on society. Competency 4.2.
